Internet Policy
The Kaubisch Memorial Public Library provides free public access to the Internet, a medium that offers a wealth of educational, recreational, and cultural information for Library users. Because the Internet is a vast, unregulated medium, the Library cannot control and is not responsible for the content or accuracy of information accessed over the Internet.
Filtering software is installed on selected workstations to block access to material that might be deemed objectionable. Given the nature of how information and sites become accessible through the Internet, the Library cannot and does not guarantee that the filtering software will block all sexually explicit material or any other material that some patrons may find objectionable.
It is the policy of the Kaubisch Memorial Public Library that parents or legal guardians of minor children are ultimately responsible for the child’s use of the Internet at the Library. Furthermore, KMPL staff cannot be held responsible for supervising minors while they are using the Internet workstations. Children ten or under must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian while using the Internet.
The following uses of the KMPL Internet connection are prohibited:
- Network resources may not be used for any activity which constitutes violation of local, state and/or federal laws.
- Accessing, loading or displaying obscene language and sexually explicit graphics and materials, as defined in sections 2907.01 and 2907.31 of the Ohio Revised Code, is prohibited.
- Unauthorized copying of copyright-protected material is not permitted.
- Chat rooms, commercial use, and online gambling are prohibited.
- Use which alters or damages equipment, software or data is prohibited and may result in legal action.
- Other uses deemed inappropriate at the discretion of Library management.
Users violating these guidelines will be asked to stop. If the violation continues, the user will forfeit the right to use the Internet access station and may be asked to leave the Library.
All users of the electronic resources of the Kaubisch Memorial Public Library agree to hold the Library harmless for any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities directly or indirectly relating to the use of the Internet or workstations.
Users must have a current KMPL library card. The Library may also limit the amount of time of individual user sessions on the workstation and may charge a fee for printing.
